Torment and torture had become her constant companions. Heartache and hoplessness hung around her small glass home like a dark and inescapable pall. From the bowl where she lived the mermaid could see, smell and, even hear the wash of the waves as they crashed against the sea shore. The salty waves called to her, beckoned her, pleaded and tugged at the once free nature of her warm and compassionate heart...
...but she could not answer that call. She could not leave her prison.
They, her captors saw her, not as a mermaid, not as a woman, but as a fish.
As an animal.
A pet plaything.
Her heart writhed in tormented agony.
She longed for liberty, freedom, she pined in sorrowful suffering just to be loved...
